The grammatical interpretations provided for this noun in the literature diverge strongly. Laroche 1979c:69 posits an adverb in -a and translates it as ‘yearly’, just like Greek κατ’ ἕκαστον ἐνιαυτὸν in the trilingual (likewise Christiansen 2020a:226). Differently, Hajnal 1994a:159 and Melchert (DLL:75) posit a nom./acc. pl. n. (or collective). Neumann 2007a:401 suggests a dative/locative plural instead, although a locative singular would be sufficient. In fact, the word uhazata (like rm̃mazata) always indicates the frequency with which a sacrifice should be performedand an actual object is usually expressed within the sentence, e.g. wawã, wawu, [pas]ḅas, ada 70, adaijẽ 2½, xadrñna. Syntactically speaking, one could therefore take uhazata as a direct object standing in apposition to the actual object that is to be offered (in sacrifice). Alternatively, it could be taken as an adverbial, but preferably as a locative singular. This interpretation would be supported by a passage in the trilingual, where uhazata is coordinated by se with nuredi nuredi ‘monthly’ (N 320.27). In any case, further evidence is needed.

1.1.3Meaning
For the elucidation of the meaning of the compound uhazata-, see under Lyc. A uh(i)-. The exact meaning of zata- is deduced by its etymological relation with the verb za- ‘to give a share’ (← za- c. ‘share, allotment’). The action noun za-ta- c. should refer to the action or the result of giving a share, i.e. delivery, tribute, payment (Hajnal 1994a:159, Neumann 2007a:401, DLL:75). However, the compound may have taken on different semantics. For example, if uhazata is a locative, the meaning ‘in a year-delivery’ may have evolved to ‘at a yearly interval, every year’ (thus translated by Christiansen 2020a:226).

1.1.4Stem
The action noun zata- of the compound uha-zata- represents a formation in -ta- c. derived from the verb za- ‘to give a share’ (cf. Hajnal 1994a:159, DLL:75).

For the first member of the compound see Lyc. A uh(i)- and for the second zata-.
