‘to release’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is found in various types of inscriptions from the Classical period. It is also commonly used in univerbations, for which see under Compound. The personal name Ddawahãma- (TL 113.2) could also be adduced here, if we analyze it as ddewe- n. ‘gift’ + hãme/i- ‘releasing’ + -a- c., i.e. ‘the one releasing gifts’.

The restoration of ha[de] (TL 44b.47-48) follows the one of Schürr 1997b:65, which is contextually supported. For the likely assignment of the fragmentary form had[ (TL 44a.11) to this lexeme, cf. Neumann 2007a:89. The two singular forms hati definitely belong to a different paradigm; see under Lyc. A ha-(ti).

1.1.3Meaning
The verb ha-(di) is used with various preverbs, modifying its meaning. A list of all the different combinations with their respective semantics will be given, before the core meaning of the verb ha-(di) is addressed.
ñte pddẽ hadẽ = Greek κατέστησε ‘installed, appointed’ (Laroche 1979c:61, Heubeck 1981a:159)
epi hadi / epi hãti ‘release’ (Melchert 1989b:38f., differently Eichner 1983a:62 ‘to grant’)
ñtepi hadu ‘allow’ (Melchert 1989b:39f.)
ha[de] ẽnẽ ‘restored (vel sim.)’
The verb is also used without preverbs in a passage, where it takes two dedications as direct objects (TL 44c.4). It is translated as ‘to issue’ by Melchert 1993e:31., whereas Hajnal 1995a:108 n. 96 uses German ‘zulassen’ (Engl. ‘to allow’), in order to keep the connection with ‘to let’, which was suggested on etymological grounds with CLuw. šā-(i) ‘to let go, release’ (Melchert 1989b:38-40). While it is clear that the basic meaning expresses a movement from one person to another like ‘to let something reach someone’ or ‘to let someone reach something’ (thus Neumann 2007a:88), various verbs are used in our modern languages to render the exact meaning, which strongly depends on the context.

2. Reconstruction
2.1Reconstruction ‘to release’
Due to the lenition of the mi-conjugation, Lyc. ha-(di) ‘to release’ must go back to a root verb of the mi-conjugation (Melchert 1989b:40f., LIV²:518, Sasseville 2021a:546), i.e. *séh2-/sh2-´ ‘to release’; for the shape of the root see the parallel formation Lyc. A ha-(ti) under Reconstruction.
