1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this lexeme is reasonably clear because of the attested spellings, which are all fully syllabic. The word used to be conflated by scholars with /tarza-/ ‘to turn (oneself)’ (see e.g. Rieken 2004a:457f.), but has since been separated from it again, although an etymological link is commonly held to exist, see Dinçol, Dinçol, Hawkins, Peker & Öztan 2015a:68.
The verb is often preceded by the logogram PES2 (sign *93), which is used as a determinative for a number of verbs from the domain of movement, e.g. /ar-(ti)/ ‘to walk’ and /hwiya-(i)/ ‘to run’.

1.1.4Meaning ‘to have access to (?)’
The meaning of this verb has proved difficult to determine due to the ill-understood contexts it is attested in. When conflating the forms with /tarza-/, Rieken 2004a:465 suggested “sich wenden”, noting in an addendum (p. 467) and following Melchert (pers. comm.) that /tarzi-/ should be considered the transitive cognate to intransitive /tarza-/. However, none of the contexts feature definitive proof for a direct object, instead they always contain a dat./loc. object, suggesting that the meaning of /tarzi-/ is, though different form /tarza-/, not simply transitive. A provisional translation as ‘to have access to (?)’ is therefore suggested here, see e.g. ARSUZ 1, §13: *a-wa/i-tá hi-ia-wa/i-ha(REGIO) (PES2)tara/i-zi-i-ha, approx. /a=wa=tta Hiyawi=ha tarziHa/, probably translating as ‘(The town Ahhiyawa put me to the stick (= appointed me mayor vel sim.), and I stood over them), I had access also to the land Ahhiyawa’ (cf. Dinçol, Dinçol, Hawkins, Peker & Öztan 2015a:65, 67).

1.1.5Stem
While it seems clear that the verbs /tarzi-/ and /tarza-/ are related, it is not entirely clear how if /tarza-/ is assumed to be a stem in /-zza-/. The stem class of /tarzi-/ therefore remains likewise unknown.
