1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Belonging to the family around /harwa-/ ‘road’ and with at least one fully syllabic rendition extant, the phonological interpretation of this word is secure. Moreover, it has a direct cognate in CLuw. ḫarwanni-(ti) ‘to send’ and is morphologically transparent, cf. the discussion of the stem below.
Like the other lexemes from the same word family, /harwanni-/ is regularly spelt with the logogram VIA (sign *221), which usually covers part of the phonological representation, although it can take on the function of a logographic determinative.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning of this verb, first suggested by Hrozný 1933b:209f.Note that Hrozný correctly identifies the 2sg. impv. act. /harwanni/, but also mixes it with the HLuw. word /hattura-/, which he takes as related, but which has since undergone several re-interpretations and been subject to much scholarly discussion. (followed e.g. by Gelb 1942a:69), is reasonably clear from its morphology and finds support in the attestations, cf. also Hawkins 1975a:145. The verb is exclusive to the ASSUR letters, where it most often occurs in the 2sg. impv. act. form, i.e. commanding the addressee to take action with respect to the direct objects mentioned in the clause. A typical example is ASSUR letter e, §18: (*179.*347.5)wa/i-sà-pa-ha-wa/i-mu FEMINA-ti-na-i VIA-wa/i-ni-i, approx. /waspan=ha=wa=mu wanattin harwanni/, meaning ‘Dispatch to me a woman’s dress!’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:536). In a few cases, the verb is used in a different context, e.g. in ASSUR letter a, §7, where the author complains to the addressee: (*205)á-tu-ni-na-wa/i-mu kwa/i-za NEG2-a ma-nu-ha VIA-wa/i-ni-ta, approx. /adunin=wa=mu kwanza na manuhha harwannitta/, translating as ‘Why did you send to me no rations whatsoever?’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:534).
As Yakubovich 2016a:70f. notes, /harwanni-(ti)/ is not the only verb with the meaning ‘to send’, since the HLuw. corpus also contains /wiyani-/ and /paya-/, both with similar meanings. Because of its etymological link with /harwa-/, Yakubovich suggests that /harwanni-/ may denote a more specialised ‘to send over some distance’ vel sim.

1.1.5Stem
This verb belongs to the class in /-i-(ti)/, deriving from an unattested stem */harwann(i)-/ ‘little path’ that includes the diminutive suffix /-ann(i)-/, see under the CLuw. lemma.

1.2.4Meaning
The recent handbooks unanimously relate CLuw. ḫarwanni-(ti) to HLuw. /harwanni-(ti)/ ‘to send’ (CLL:62, HHw:45, EDHIL:317, Lehrman 1998a:155, 171, Sasseville 2021a:139). The fragmentary context neither supports nor disproves this assumption, but based on the length of the word and transparency of its derivation (see under Stem), the equation can be regarded as probative.

1.2.5Stem
The verb is generally analyzed as a denominative formation with the non-leniting suffix -i- based on ḫar[wann(i)-] ‘small path’ (see under Lemma; CLL:62, EDHIL:317, Lehrman 1998a:155, 171, Melchert 2003a:199, Sasseville 2021a:139).
