The word ebei has been considered by scholars to be the dat. and/or loc. sg. form of the demonstrative pronoun with an additional adverbial function ‘here’ (Thomsen 1899a:10, 24, 49, Stoltenberg 1955a:74, Houwink ten Cate 1961a:67, Laroche 1979c:71, Gusmani 1979c:231, Melchert in DLL:11, Eichner 2005a:23), i.e.with the proximal deixis ‘this here (dat.)’.
