Only a representative set of attestations are given in the table above. Per Melchert (DLL:35) the gen. adj. form laθθi (< *ladahi) is substantivized to mean ‘in-law (of husband)’.

The meaning ‘wife’ for Lyc. A lada- has been securely established and completely consensual since the 19th century (thus in e.g. Imbert 1894a:454f., Torp 1898a:11, Thomsen 1899a:61, Hrozný 1917a:49 n. 1, Meriggi 1936b:268, Kretschmer 1943a:91 n.1, Pedersen 1945a:35, Laroche 1974a:121, Carruba 1991a:173f., Hajnal 1994a:149, Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:64, Gusmani 2002a:349, DLL:34, Neumann 2007a:180, Yakubovich 2012a:324, Schürr 2012a:133, Christiansen 2012a:145, HEG W-Z:234, Martínez Rodríguez 2018a:281). Clear evidence is available in the bilingual TL 6, where Lyc. A hrppi lada (line 2) corresponds to Gr. ἐπὶ ταῖς γυναιξίν (line 5).

1.2.1Transmission

This lexeme is attested in the inscription TL 55, the engraved lion sarcophagus of Antiphellos, dated stylistically to shortly after 400 BCE (Zahle 1979a:318, Mühlbauer 2007a:91).

1.2.3Graphic Features

The second attestation is obtained by the emendation of the sequence luwadladi to luwad ladi, which has been suggested in DLL:120; see under Lyc. B luwa-.

For the basic meaning, see Meaning under the corresponding Lycian A lemma. According to Neumann 1974c:641, ladã in TL 55.4 is the second member of a compound xbaladã ‘Lady Chba (Hepat)’ (thus also in DLL:135).
