1.1.3Meaning
The correct meaning of this lexeme has been offered already in Brandenstein 1929a:285f. Its primary support comes from LW 23.15-16, where the context strongly suggests the translation ‘not to anyone else’ for aλaλ nid qλ=k. Additional combinatory evidence comes from LW 2.7, where aλẽν awλãν concludes a long list of noun phrases coordinated by disjunctions. It is fair to say that etymological considerations play but a secondary role in semantic assignment in this case.

1.1.4Stem
The stem aλa- represents one of the Lydian a/ẽ-stems, on which see Hajnal 2004a:1889-192 and Sasseville 2017a:143. It introduces the most direct comparative evidence for the continuation of Indo-European thematic stems.
