1.1.2Forms
| inf. | išaaλal | LW 11.6 (Sardis) |
Vetter 1959a:56f. sees a 3sg. pret. act. form, whereas Gusmani 1964a:134f. right points out that a finite form is most likely already present in the sentence, i.e. umνod, which makes an interpretation of išaaλal as an infinitive more satisfactory (outdated Brandenstein 1931b:53). Vetter (ibid.) separates the preverb iš- and sees in aaλa- a verbal base related to Lyd. aλa- ‘other’ (followed by Gusmani 1964a:134f., Gusmani 1980a:28 and Sasseville 2021a:61). One should however notice that Lyd. aλa- ‘other’ is oxytone, whereas išaaλa- is barytone, with the plene spelling of the -aa- betraying the position of the accent.
In any case, as attractive as this may seem, one cannot entirely exclude that iš- is the root (cf. Lyd. išl(i)-, išmẽn-) and -aλa- reflects a chain of suffixes (cf. 1390šiwraλa-). Therefore, both options are left open for now.

1.1.4Stem
As pointed out in Sasseville 2021a:61, 106f., it is not possible to tell whether the infinitive išaaλal belongs to a factitive in -a-(t) or to a denominative in -a-(d).
