1.1.3Meaning

The fragmentary context is not conducive to defining the meaning of the lexeme under discussion. The only available clue is the likely derivative šiwraλm(i)-. Based on this derivational connection, Meriggi 1935a:9 assigned šiwraλa- to the semantic sphere of protecting. The translation ‘protection’ indeed cannot be excluded, in which case šiwraλa- may be close in meaning to šaroka-, but in the absence of independent contextual or etymological confirmation this hypothesis remains very speculative. See now the new semantic assignment of šiwraλm(i)-.

1.1.4Stem

Synchronically, this is an a-stem, or perhaps an a/e-stem. The morphological segmentation of šiwraλa- remains uncertain.
