  niqašlad LW 80.6 (Sardis)

The grammatical interpretation of niqašlad has been debated; cf. Gusmani 1964a:174, Gusmani 1975b:18. Sasseville 2021a:112 argues for a denominative verb in -a-(d) by pleading against a neuter form of an adjective in -l(i)-, since the paradigm of this suffix has extended the i-mutation to the neuter gender (see Sasseville 2017a).

1.1.3Meaning

The meaning of niqašlad depends on the semantic assignment of niqašl(i)-, qašl(i)- and qaša- as well as on its morphological analysis; cf. under stem. Based on the context, the action of the verb appears to be performed by a person, i.e. probably the niqašl(i)- ‘the one who does not rent out (the grave)’. Therefore, the verb could mean ‘to act as the one who refrains from renting out’. For the semantics of denominative verbs derived from agent nouns, see Sasseville 2021a:110f.

1.1.4Stem

As discussed in Sasseville 2021a:112, niqašla-(d) is a denominative verb in -a-(d) derived from either niqašl(i)- or a non-attested *niqašla- c.

For the lemma head see Lyd. qaša-.
