The interpretation as nominal singular by DLL:84 is not likely: the subject of the sentence is surely the mluhidaza-official, mentioned in the previous sentence. An accusative singular as suggested by Neumann 2007a:133 is not compatible either, since the direct object is already expressed by hrm̃mã and an asyndetic relation between the two would be unmotivated. A dative/locative singular is preferable (thus Carruba 1977a:286 n. 23), see under Meaning.

1.1.3Meaning
The word xruwi follows the preposition ñtenẽ, which consists of ñte ‘in(to)’ and ẽnẽ ‘under’, although the precise semantics of this preposition still elude us. The etymological relationship with xra-(di) ‘to offer’ and xruwata- ‘(thank) offerings’ finds consensus (Meriggi 1978c:245, Melchert (DLL:84f.), Schürr 2006a:131, Shevoroshkin 2012a:464). Melchert (DLL:84) suggests the meaning ‘offering stand’, which is possible, but difficult to prove. From a morphological perspective, xruwe/i- is derived with the suffix -we/i- from the verb xra-(di) ‘to offer (as compensation)’ in the same way that tuwe/i- ‘(laid) votive offering’ is derived from ta-(di) ‘to place (horizontally)’. Therefore, xruwe/i- could simply mean ‘offering’, from which xruwata- ‘(thank) offering’ as a collective would have been derived without any major difference in the semantics (cf. Melchert 1999e:368f.). Awaiting further attestations, xruwe/i- is translated provisionally as ‘offering (vel sim.)’ here.

1.1.4Stem
For the stem formation, see under Meaning. The mutated status of the noun is based on the interpretation of the deverbal suffix -we/i- c.

1.2.3Meaning ‘donation ?’
Although also Greek κρύος ‘frost’ could be the underlying word, already Zgusta 1984a:306 pointed out that this is very improbable in case of the Mediterranean sea coast and islands. An Anatolian interpretation is supported also by its presumable derivative, the toponym Κρυασσος (Schürr 2006a:126). Schürr 2006a:126‒131 suggests that Κρυα was built on the Carian cognate of Lycian A xruwe/i- ‘offering vel sim.’ as “Schenkung”. This is a formally and semantically plausible analysis, even if it cannot be proved without independent evidence.

If Car. *krua really belongs here, a Proto-Luwic formation in *-u̯o- derived from the verb *HreH- (Lyc. B xra-(di)) can be posited, i.e. *Hrā-u̯o- > *Hruu̯o- > Lyc. A xruwe/i-.
