1.1.3Meaning ‘pertaining to donation ?’

Since Krwṣ in E.Th 45 appears isolated, its interpretation as a personal name is only a possibility, but Krws in E.Th 39 is accompanied by a patronym in genitive and thus, we are clearly dealing with a personal name. Schürr 2006a:126‒131 suggests that Krws and the Carian toponym Κρυασσος (Zgusta 1984a:307 §632-2) are based on the same Carian word. With the -s-suffix of appurtenance, this Carian word would be a regular derivative of Carian *krua- “Schenkung”, a cognate of Lycian A xruwe/i- ‘offering vel sim.’ (see s.v.) and attested in the Carian toponym Κρυα (cf. s.v. *krua, Κρυασσος was derived from Κρυα already by Zgusta 1984a:306). Formally speaking, this analysis is entirely possible, even though the actual meaning of the word underlying the name is hard to define without independent evidence. Moreover, it shall not be forgotten that the name’s existence is not fully certain and in theory, it can represent an Egyptian name, too.
