The grammatical assignments of the forms listed in the table agree with those by Melchert (DLL:1) and Christiansen 2020a:183, 215. Neumann 2007a:3 takes adai instead as nominative singular common gender, which is hardly possible, since it would imply that the numerals have vacillating genders. Differently, Arkwright 1923a:24 interprets adai as a genitival plural in -ãi with denasalization, which would only be possible if ada- was a common gender a-stem. However, collectives in -a-, like neuter s-stems, only take the genitival plural in -ẽ. Independent evidence for a dative singular in adai can be seen in the inscription TL 65.9, which offers a different context. Despite the fragmentary state, the relative phrase ịtaẓị=ti : adai ‘which is for the itaza of the ada’, in which adai modifies itazi, dat. sg. of itaza-. In any case, the sentence in TL 11.3 is to be understood as follows: s=ẽ=t(e)=alahhãti : miñti : adai 10½ ‘The mindis-people will allocate him (into the tomb) for ten and a half ada.’.

1.1.5Stem
The adjective adai(je)- is derived from the collective a-stem ada- by means of the suffix -i(je)-. The preservation of the stem vowel -a- (< *-eh2-) is due to historical reasons; cf. Luw. /-a-/ (< *-eh2-) → /-a-i(ya)-/ (< *-eh2-i̯o-). Since it is found already in Cuneiform Luwian, this type of derivation is not a Lycian (or Caro-Lycian) innovation (contra Hajnal 1995a:164 n. 190). Thus, adai(je)- means expectedly ‘pertaining to the ada, of the ada’ and is used in a parallel fashion to the genitive collective adẽ ‘of the ada’.
