1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this word is mainly unclear, since the syllabically spelt part only provides a glimpse at the nom./acc. pl. neuter ending. On the basis of the suggested meaning, a link to /saru(ssa)-/ ‘loot, plunder(?)’ may be considered (L. Preß, pers. comm.).
The logogram *274 puzzled scholars for its seemingly disparate usage (cf. e.g. Hawkins 2000a:257), as it can be found in the spelling of a number of HLuw. words, e.g. /hattall(a)i-(di)/ ‘to smite, subdue’ and /ubadid-/ ‘demesne’. Yakubovich 2019a:545f. elucidated the connection as the words belonging to the semantic domain of conquest.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning is suggested by Yakubovich 2019a:546 based on the spelling with *274 and the contexts, which relate the destruction and plundering of towns. TOPADA, §15 reads: *274-ia-pa-wa/i FEMINA.MANUS-za/i-ha SERVUS-sa (“PES”)u-pa-tax, approx. /…-ya=ba=wa wanatta-niwaranninza=ha hudarlahi=sa ubatta/, meaning ‘But he (scil. an aforementioned enemy) brought the booty and the female children as servant(s)’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:453).
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
Unclear. The ending /-ya/ visible at TOPADA, §15 shows the word to be a neuter noun, likely a neuter a-stem.
