1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of the present lexeme is reasonably certain. Not only is the spelling quite clear, but the part covered by the logogram SUPER (sign *70) serves to tie the lexeme to the word family around /sarli/ ‘highly’ and /sarra/ ‘over’, cf. Hawkins 2000a:450.
[AH.B.]
1.1.4Meaning
The semantic interpretation of the lexeme is quite certain, although it appears in clauses that are partially broken. In ÇİFTLİK, §7, the relevant clause runs: SUPER+ra/i-˹la˺-ti-pa-wa/i u-ru-x-ha-sá (DEUS)TONITRUS-hu-za-sa, approx. /sarladi=ba=wa uru-...-has Tarhunzas/, meaning ‘but above (is) the u. Tarhunza’. It is clear that the word can only function as an adverb in the context, and its meaning is supported both etymologically as well as contextually, cf. Hawkins 2000a:450.
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
Deriving from the adjective /sarla/i-/ ‘high’, the present form represents an indeclinable adverb built with the suffix /-adi/ also used in the adverb /apparadi/ ‘afterwards’. The HLuw. corpus features a similar form with the same meaning as the present adverb, viz. /sarlada/, which is morphologically less clear.
[AH.B.]
