1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this verb is quite clear despite a lack of fully syllabic spellings. The word belongs to the family around /tabar-(ti)/ (or /tabari-(ti)/) ‘to rule’, and its morphology is fully transparent, cf. the discussion of the stem below. As with most members of the word family, this word, too, relies on the logogram LEPUS (sign *115) in its two variations, viz. the depiction of the head and neck of a hare (LEPUS) and that of the full animal (LEPUS2) without any discernible difference in meaning.

1.1.4Meaning
Although the verb is attested only twice, its basic meaning is relatively clear because of its transparent morphology. The factitive meaning is particularly apparent in KULULU 4, §7: wa/i-mu LEPUS+ra/i-ia-la-ta, approx. /wa=mu tabariyallanta/, meaning ‘(I was dear to my lords), and they made me commander’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:445, 447). In KARABURUN, §3, Hawkins 2000a:481f. observes a lack of a direct object, but as per Sasseville 2021a:41f. it is not necessary to assume two different verbs here, rather the same suffix is polysemous in different syntactic constructions, with a meaning ‘to act as commander’ in an intransitive context.

1.1.5Stem
This verb represents a factitive in /-a-(ti)/ derived from the noun /tabariyalla/i-/ ‘commander’, see Sasseville 2021a:18, 41f.
