1.1.3Meaning
The context in which zalaha is attested is obscure, although certain houses or buildings (tamas) are mentioned. At first sight zalaha appears to agree with esitm̃mãta, although the latter has been interpreted as a compounded personal name (cf. Hajnal 1995a:159 n. 168). Melchert (DLL:87) takes it to be a genitival adjective of the stem zala-, the derivational base of the verb zala-(ti). Thus, its meaning would be expected to have to do with shares and perhaps land parcels, allotments’, and zalaha would mean ‘belonging to the one of the share’ (noun in -ala- c.). While this meaning, obtained morphematically, seems promising, more contextual evidence is needed to attain certainty.
