1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Although attested only once, the phonological interpretation of this verb can be regarded as reasonably certain because of its overt spelling and the fact that it is a reduplicated formation. The choice of 〈sà〉 (*104) over any of the other SA signs suggests that the phoneme /s/ was represented by its allophone /ʃ/ in this word, conditioned by the preceding /u/, see Rieken 2010b:657f.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning was first assigned by Poetto 1979b:673, following the more tentative suggestions by Hawkins 1975a:138 and Hawkins 1979b:155 and reassessing the relevant contexts of the present verb and its associated noun /luzzall(i)-/. Note that scholars used to read both /luslusa-/ and /luzzall(i)-/ with a-vocalism instead, i.e. “laslas-” and “lazala/i-”, see Hawkins 2000a:28 for more information on the sign *445 〈la/i/u〉. In the context of HAMA 4, §11, the clause runs as follows: (“BOS”)u-su-pa-ta-tì-ha-wa/i (“FLAMMAE?”)la/i/u-za-li-na NEG2-a (“FLAMMAE?”)la/i/u-sà-la/i/u-sà-ta DEUS-ni-i SUPER+ra/i-a INFRA-ta, approx. /usuppattadi=ha=wa luzzallin na luslussanta massani sarra zanta/, which is interpreted tentatively as ‘They did not sacrifice a complete burning (= holocaust) with a bull offering to the god up (and) down’, cf. Hawkins 2000a:405f.

1.1.5Stem
Clearly reduplicated, the simplex form serving as a base for the present verb may or may not be attested in HLuw., see /lu-x-/ ‘to burn (intrans.)’. The stem is formed by the addition of an /-a-/ to the reduplicated root. As is typical for reduplicated verbs in Luwian, /luslusa-/ inflects according to the ḫi-conjugation, cf. Sasseville 2021a:340.
