neri(je)-
‘of the sister, sisterly’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme occurs only once in Lycian B, found in the inscription TL 55 engraved on the lion sarcophagus of Antiphellos, dated stylistically to shortly after 400 BCE (Zahle 1979a:318, Mühlbauer 2007a:91).

1.1.2Forms
| acc. sg. c. | neriu | TL 55.6 (Antiphellos) |
Note the lack of expected glide vowel between -i- and -u. Furthermore, the expected acc. sg. c. form of neri(je)- is **neri (< *neriji), but the form neriu shows secondary agreement to an a-stem (see Meaning and cf. qliju to Lyc. B qli(je)- ‘pertaining to the precinct’).
[O.B.]
1.1.3Meaning
On TL 55.6, the acc. sg. adjective neriu modifies the preceding noun mlu (cf. mla- ‘(votive) offering’). According to Schürr 2005a:146 (see also Schürr 1997c:137), neri(je)- is derived from nere/i- ‘sisters’ (thus also DLL:123), appearing in line 2 as dat./loc. pl. nere, ultimately referring to the nymphs mentioned elsewhere in the inscription. Accordingly, a translation ‘sisterly’ is appropriate. Thus, the sentence on TL 55.6 reads as mlu neriu : muwax[a tu]ẉẽmedi ‘I strengthened the sisterly offering with standing offerings’, which works contextually.
