1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this word is relatively certain. It most likely belongs to the word family around HLuw. /sarl(a)i-(di)/ ‘to offer’, cf. the discussion of the stem below.
Because of the use of 〈sà〉 instead of any of the other SA signs and its position after /i/, it is possible (see Rieken 2010b:657) that the second sibilant is palatalised to /ʃ/. If so, that may have obscured the cognate link with /sarl(a)i-(di)/ ‘to offer’ on the phonological level.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning is assigned on the basis of the assumed etymological connection with the verb /sarl(a)i-(di)/ ‘to offer’ and is further supported by the context (cf. Yakubovich 2017e:s.v.). In HİSARCIK 1, §5, the author of the inscription appeals to the deity that has been given sacrifices: a-wa/i á-wa/i-´ ha-tu+ra/i-la-´ PUGNUS.PUGNUS-la tu-wa/i-na si-sà+ra/i-li-na ku+ra/i-ti-sá SERVUS-lá/í-na, approx. /a=wa awi hatturala …-la tuwin sisarlin Kurtis hudarlin/, translating as ‘Come on, hold in life your worshipper (and) servant Kurti!’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:483f.).Hawkins’ syntactic analysis of the clause (followed by Hutter 2003a:271) is quite different, however.

1.1.5Stem
If the assumed connection with /sarl(a)i-(di)/ ‘to offer’ is correct, the present word represents substantivised adjective in /-i(ya)-/, deriving from a reduplicated putative noun */sisarl(i)-/. The word family contains another reduplicated form with the verb /sasarla-(i)/ ‘to offer’; how the different vocalisations of the reduplication syllable relate to one another is not yet clear.
