satro-(d)
‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is found in a metrical inscription from Sardis.

1.1.2Forms
| 3pl. pres. act. | satrot | LW 14.10 (Sardis) |
The form satrot is interpreted here as 3rd plural present, because the 3rd singular present counterpart of verbs in -o-(d) has a lenited ending, i.e. -od, pace Gusmani 1964a:201.
[D.S.]
1.1.3Graphic Features
Meriggi 1935a:108 n. 92 suggests to reconstruct the same verbal form in nsạ[…], i.e. n(i)-sa[trot] in LW 14.11, which is extremely tentative, since we do not know the meaning of the word satrot and the context is poorly understood. Therefore, his suggestion is not accepted here.
Sasseville 2021a:188 sees the possibility of emending satrot to t!atrot, thus recovering the reduplicated form of tro-(d); see also tatro-(d). Though tempting, this emendation cannot yet be supported by the context.
[D.S.]
1.1.4Meaning
The context, in which the word satrot is found, is obscure. No meaning can be offered; cf. Gusmani 1964a:201.
[D.S.]
1.1.5Stem
Gusmani 1964a:201 suggests to see sa- as a preverb and identifies tro- as the verb. This is criticized by Neumann 1965a:273, who points out that there is no further evidence for a preverb sa- in Lydian. Therefore, if no emendation is needed in this word (see Graphic Features), the verb is suggested here to be a denominative verb derived from a noun in -ro-, i.e. *sat-ro- → satro-(d).
