1.1.3Meaning
Gusmani 1964a:211 suggests seeing the verb tro-(d) with a preverb ta-, which is formally possible. Differently, Neumann 1965a:273, Melchert 1992a:54, and Sasseville 2021a:188f. classify tatrot as a reduplicated form of tro-(d), which is also possible.Contra Shevoroshkin 1982a:212 (ta)tro- < *ter- ‘to speak’. It is ditransitive with a person as its indirect object, supporting a link with tro-(d). However, it remains obscure what function the reduplication has here.
