‘(a title)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is found in an inscription that has not yet been dated accurately, unless the named Xezixa is the same as Xezixa, the uncle of Gergis, in which case second half of the 5th century would be a good starting point.

1.1.3Meaning
That itaza- refers to an agent noun is clear from a morphological perspective, i.e. -aza- from the verbal base ite-(ti) translated here as ‘to do justice, enforce the law (?)’. Melchert (DLL:29, following Carruba 1996a) translates it as ‘treasurer’, comparing the cognates (see under lemma head), which is possible since the context mentions the ada-money. However, as the context is about penalties and compensatory offerings, the meaning ‘treasurer’ is not cogent either. The exact function of an itaza- remains obscure until further evidence emerges. It is left untranslated by Gehrisch 2018a:117.

1.1.4Stem
itaza- is a common gender a-stem, formed with the individualizing/professional suffix -aza-.
