1.1.2Forms
| inf. | itẽne | TL 29.4 (Tlos) |
The word itẽne is best interpreted as an infinitive (thus Melchert in DLL:29), see under Meaning.
For the rejected assignment of the obscure word itei (TL 124.10) to this lemma, see DLL:29, 96.
[D.S.]
1.1.3Meaning
The context in which itẽne is attested speaks of the war penalties (sm̃me) Ikuwe, the owner of the grave, had to pay. In the last phrase and before it is explained more exactly how or when this happened during the war, it is said that:
se=tijala : ãxrḥi : itẽne : uwehi
‘The one (in charge) of the penalties pertaining to the ãxrahi-rites/offerings and the cattle is to do itẽne.’
The meanings suggested in DLL:29 (“to entrust”) or by Gehrisch 2018a:39 (“to agree on”) are not satisfactory. Considering the cognates (see under Derivatives), a meaning such as ‘to enforce the law’ or ‘to do justice’ would breathe sense into the context.

1.1.4Stem
Taken at face value, itẽne should belong to the verbal stem class in -e-(ti).
