This lexeme is found in grave inscriptions form Limyra and Xanthos as well as on the inscribed pillar of Xanthos dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.3Graphic Features

The sequence me=ije ne pemati is interpreted as ne=ije nepe mati (see under lemma ma-(ti)).

1.1.4Meaning

The negation nepe is an emphatic version of ne ‘not’ combined with =pe (Houwink ten Cate 1961a:75), which Neumann 2007a:239 translates with Germ. “gewiss nicht” (DLL:44 “not”, likewise Christiansen 2020a:242f. for TL 112). Possible translations such as ‘in no way, never, not at all’ all depend on the context.
