1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation is quite certain and follows that of the other members of the word family, see the discussion at /allummi-(ti)/ ‘to strengthen’. The attested spellings are remarkably consistent, showing 〈tà〉 probably for rendering a lenis dental (see Rieken 2008b:637f.).

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning of this word was immediately clear to Bossert 1949a:90, 111f. (and again Bossert 1950a:15) due to the link to /allummi-(ti)/ ‘to strengthen’ evident from the spelling, and the fact that it corresponds to Phoenician ʾnk ‘strong’. KARATEPE (Hu.), §25 reads: *274-ta-li-ha-há-wa/i “CASTRUM”-sà PUGNUS-la/i/u-mi-tà-ia-a (“OCCIDENS”)i-pa-mi “VERSUS”-na, approx. /hattalliha=ha=wa harnissa allumidaiya ibami tawiyan/, translating as ‘And I subdued strong fortresses in the west, (which former kings had not subdued)’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:52).
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
This word appears to be an adjective in /-ai(ya)-/, apparently deriving from an unattested stem */alummid-/, likely a neuter abstract noun meaning ‘strength’ vel sim., cf. Sasseville 2021a:97.
Outdated is the suggestion by Mittelberger 1963a:103 that the form represents an nt-participle. This is incompatible with the lenis dental clear from the spelling with 〈tà〉.
