1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this pronoun is assured since it combines two well-known morphemes: the 1pl. pronoun /anza-/ ‘we’ with cognates such as CLuw. anza- ‘we’ and the suffix /-i(ya)-/.
The present lexeme represents the only one to feature at least once a spelling with 〈á〉 (sign *19), the use of which has been the subject of extensive scholarly discussion, cf. e.g. Melchert 2010b:153 with literature.
[AH.B.]
1.1.4Meaning
Despite only three attestations, the semantic interpretation of the pronoun is clear. Like /anza-/ ‘we’, it occurs most naturally in the contexts of the ASSUR letters with ASSUR letter f+g, §9 reading: kwa/i-sà-´-wa/i-sa-´ a-zi-sa ha-tu-ra+a-sa, approx. /kwis=wa=as anzis hatturas/, likely meaning ‘What (is) it, our health?’ (see Waal 2021a:277f., cf. Hawkins 2000a:536).
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
The word represents an adjective of appurtenance formed with the suffix /-i(ya)-/ from the orthotonic pronoun /anza-/ ‘we’. It is used to mark possession, and like some other possessive adjectives in /-i(ya)-/, it has a duplicate with the genitival adjective marker /-assa/i-/, viz. /anzassa/i-/ (for which see HLuw. /anza-/ ‘we’).
