1.1.3Meaning
As pointed out by Gusmani 1964a:167, it is unclear whether mλwẽšiš should be taken as an adjective or a substantive, although a derivative in -š(i)- from the same base as mλwẽndaν is clear (Melchert 1994a:372, Gérard 2005a:87, outdated Neumann 1969a:222 n. 17). Based on the translation of the latter with ‘part (?)’, Vetter 1959a:14 assigns the speculative meaning ‘destiny’ to mλwẽšiš. It is syntactically clear that mλwẽšiš and šawkarplos agree with each other and thus represent the subject of the sentence. If šawkarplos is a substantive, mλwẽšiš would most likely be the modifying adjective, although the other way around is also formally possible. The meaning ‘of the balcony/balustrade (?)’ is obtained morphematically and based on the new posited meaning for mλwẽndaν.
