1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

The phonological interpretation of this word has so far remained unknown. The logogram (sign *181) is otherwise mostly used with the noun HLuw. /turp(i)-/ ‘bread’ (cf. Dinçol, Dinçol, Hawkins, Peker & Öztan 2015a:66), which the present word may or may not be a derivative of. Further data are needed.

1.1.4Meaning

Judging by the use of the logogram and the context, the word appears to denote a type or form of bread. It occurs in a context of price statements in ARSUZ 1, §5: a-wa/i OVIS(ANIMA) 20 PANIS-li-sa CRUS OVIS(ANIMA) 100 (URCEUS)mu-ka BONUS2.VITIS-mi-zi CRUS+RA/I, approx. /a=wa hawi …-lis … hawi … muKas …-minzi …/, translating as ‘20 PANIS-li- breads stood for one sheep, 100 jugs of BONUS2.VITIS-mi- wine stood for one sheep’ (cf. Dinçol, Dinçol, Hawkins, Peker & Öztan 2015a:64-67). The use of the nom. sg. after the numeral ‘20’ is fully expected, see Bauer 2014a:100.

1.1.5Stem

The word is a common gender noun and may perhaps represent a derivative in /-alla/i-/, originally an adjective but later substantivized. However, further textual data may result in a reappraisal of the morphological structure.
