Due to the fragmentary context, there are doubts regarding the grammatical status of the word; cf. Carruba 1968a:21, DLL:37. However, the verbal form is mostly likely a formation in -i- derived from the root max-, also found in maxa- and maxani.

1.1.3Meaning
Gehrisch 2018a:32f. suggests the meaning ‘to be allowed’ without providing any justification. An etymological relation to the verb ma-(ti) is not likely on account of the consonant -x-, which seems to be part of the root. Due to the fragmentary state of the context, neither meaning nor etymology is suggested here.
