1.1.3Meaning
The context, in which the word col is found, is obscure and fragmentary. No meaning can be offered; cf. Gusmani 1964a:93f. Vetter 1959a:21 suggests a connection with the verb ca-(t) ‘to give a share, make a dedication’. Gusmani 1964a:94 tentatively links it to the root cu- found in facuni- ‘to sponsor, erect (?)’. One could also posit a contracted variant of the verb cuwe- (in dacuwerst), in which the sequence -uwe- would contract to -o-.
fak=m=iš col (LW 14.15)
The enclitic pronoun =m ‘(to) me’ suggests that the author of the inscription is the recipient of the action involved. All these etymological suggestions, though mostly plausible, cannot yet be proven.
