1.1.3Meaning
The phrase ẽti zehi refers to the time frame concerning an exploit of the king and can be compared with ẽti uhi ‘within a year’. Contra Schürr 2009b:112, who sees a place instead, although the location has already been expressed by medbijahe. Deecke 1889a:27 assigned the meaning ‘in a day’, which is followed by Sasseville 2021c, who brings further support from the etymological perspective, i.e. za- c. ‘share, portion’ → zehe/i- ‘of a share/portion’ → ‘day’ (followed by Serangeli 2019a:235). He adduces as comparison the German word for time ‘Zeit’, which comes from a PIE root meaning ‘to apportion, distribute’ (*dh2i- + -ti-); also, days can be viewed as portions of the moon.
