1.1.4Meaning

No translation of the word “CRUS”-nu-sà-wa/i-´ is offered in Hawkins 2000a:131 or in Payne 2012a:87, since the passage is fragmentary. From a morphological perspective, it is a verbal derivative in /-ssa-(i)/ from the verb /tanuwa-(i)/ ‘to cause to stand, set up’. The verbal suffix /-ssa-(i)/ is used to mark the finite verb /tanuwa-(i)/ as imperfective (Melchert 2003b:205). Therefore, one would expect the verb to mean approximately ‘I am setting up’.
