1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this verb is reasonably clear, because it has at least one cognate in Lyc. wezz(e)i-(di) ‘to love’ (cf. Sasseville 2021a:237). It is part of the same word family as /wazza-/ ‘request’ vel sim., see under lemma. The form attested in ASSUR letter f+g, §18 shows an additional /n/ on its 1sg. pret. act. ending, which is a recurrent feature in Iron Age times (Carruba 1984a:65). The first attempt to explain these forms with /n/ was put forward by Morpurgo Davies 1980b:97-101, who analysed them as plurals; this was refuted in detail by Carruba 1984a.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning of this verb was first suggested by Morpurgo Davies 1980b:99 in an attempt to make sense of the apparent figura etymologica in ASSUR letter f+g, §18, see under lemma /wazza-/ ‘request’. The context in KULULU 1, §7 is rather different, as the verb concludes the first clause of a curse formula protasis: wa/i-ti za-ia DOMUS-na-a kwa/i-sá tu-wa/i-ti-ia wa/i-zi-ti-˹i˺, i.e. /wa=di zaya parna kwis Tuwatiya wazzidi/ ‘Who desires/ demands(?) these houses from Tuwati for himself’. While the general thrust of the meaning of the verb is not in doubt, its precise semantics are difficult to tie down, and only further attestations will permit a more detailed assessment.

1.1.5Stem
The verb is probably a factitive stem in /-(a)i-(di)/, as suggested by Sasseville 2021a:228, but this cannot be stated with absolute certainty for a lack of some of the relevant paradigmatic forms. Verbs of this stem type usually feature a singular stem in /-i-/, and a plural stem in /-ai-/, but the latter remains without attestations for the present verb in the HLuw. corpus at this time. Alternatively, it may be a different denominal formation and show a stem in /-i-(ti)/, i.e. without lenition of the endings, cf. the description of the class in Sasseville 2021a:131-133.
