1.1 Hieroglyphic Luwian
/susu(wa)-/, su-su-
‘to fill (habitually?)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is a hapax legomenon within the HLuw. corpus, whose sole attestation can be found in an inscription from Karkamiš. The dating of the inscription is not entirely clear, as it may originate either from the late Bronze age (13th to 11th century BCE) or be younger by approximately two centuries (cf. Hawkins 1981a:160).

1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Despite being attested just once, the phonological interpretation of this lexeme should be regarded as reasonably certain for the reason that it is part of the well-attested word family around HLuw. /su-/ ‘complete, full’ with cognates in the other Anatolian languages.

1.1.4Meaning
The basic meaning of this word has long been clear for the context it appears in and its relation to the word family around /su-/ ‘complete, full’. Incidentally, the verb /suwa-/ ‘to fill’ is used in the same text just two clauses further down. Hawkins 1981a:160 interprets the reduplication of /susu-/ as indicating habituality without further comment.

1.1.5Stem
Clearly reduplicated, this verb derives from the same root as /suwa-/ ‘to fill’, but does not show a thematic vowel (cf. Dempsey 2015a:278).
