[D.S.]

1.1.2Forms

dat./loc. pl. hẽkene N 324.25 (Xanthos)

1.1.3Graphic Features

Melchert [5699] DLL:23 opens the possibility that there is an elided vowel at the beginning of the word, i.e. se=de (e)hẽkene instead of se=de hẽkene. This is not likely in view of the Lycian B attestation.

[D.S.]

1.1.4Meaning

No meaning has been suggested for the word hẽkene (cf. Neumann 2007a:92, DLL:23). Bousquet 1992a:185 compares the Lycian A personal name haxãnã (TL 94.2), which does not lead anywhere. Based on the context, it can refer to a place (loc.) where a sacrificial installation is placed or to the divinities (dat.), for whom it is placed.

[D.S.]

1.1.5Stem

The word hẽkene can be analyzed as a neuter n-stem or as a formation in -ẽne/i- c. in the dative/locative plural.

dat./loc. pl. sẽkẽne TL 44d.58 (Xanthos)

1.2.3Graphic Features

Melchert DLL:128 doubts whether the segment sẽkẽne is one word or whether a clitic should be segregated (likewise Neumann 2007a:322). However, the equation with Lyc. A hẽkene speaks for an entire word.
