1.1.3Meaning ‘fighter, warrior’
Hawkins (apud Barnett 1974a:903) and Lebrun 1990a:162 interpret zxxaza- as an agent noun related to the verb zxxa-(ti) ‘to fight’ and, thus, translate it as ‘fighter’ (followed by DLL:89). This lexeme occurs in a post-war dedicatory context, where the warriors are both the givers and the receivers of gifts.

1.1.4Stem
Melchert 2015c:161 interprets the agent noun zxxaza- ‘warrior’ to be an agent noun in -aza- c. (< *-V-ti̯eh2) derived from the action noun *zxxa- ‘fight, battle’. It could also be derived directly from the verb zxxa-(ti), although denominal derivations in -aza- c. are more common than deverbal ones.
[D.S.]
For the base of the derivation see Proto-Luwic *zahhā-.
