The various Luwian verbs taštāri-(ti) ‘to set into (rapid) motion’ and paštari-(ti) ‘to start (up) (?)’ and its causative formation paštarnuwa-(i), can all be analyzed as a root star- combined either with a reduplication (š)ta-štār- (if not with the PIE preverb *to-) or with the preverb pa- ‘thither’. The root štar- is suggested as in HED PA:193 and Sasseville 2021a:469 with the meaning ‘to start, to set in (rapid) motion’. A Proto-Anatolian root of the shape *ster- with a formation in -i̯e/o-, i.e. *str̥-i̯é/ó- (> Luw. -štar-i-(ti)) is therefore posited.
