trbbẽni-(ti)
‘to trespass, infringe (?)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is attested in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.). A participle of this verb is also attested as a personal name, i.e. Trbbẽnimi (see Starke 1990a:475 n. 1735, Schürr 2001b:121, Sasseville 2021a:160; contra Neumann 2007a:371, cf. Starke 1990a:333 n. 1181).

1.1.3Graphic Features
The segmentation into trbbẽni ti as offered by Neumann 2007a:371 is unjustified (likewise Meriggi 1978c:248, Josephson 1979a:180, Shevoroshkin 2011b:149, Gehrisch 2018a:90, who goes so far as to translate trbbẽni with the personal name Trbbẽnimi). A verbal form in -iti is preferred by DLL:131, Schürr 2018b:81, Sasseville 2021a:160f.

1.1.4Meaning
The verb trbbẽniti takes urtuz marãz ‘the great laws’ as its direct object and, based on the context, it should refer to a negative action that the subject will never again perform. Shevoroshkin 1977a:141 translates ‘to distort, disfigure’, which goes in the right direction, although ‘to trespass, infringe’ would be more appropriate. With these semantics, a relation to Lyc. A trbbi ‘against’ is the most direct solution. An etymological connection with HLuw. /tarrawann(i)-/, however, as envisaged by Neumann 2007a:371 and Schürr 2018b:81 is not likely. On the personal name Trbbẽnime/i- and its variant Trbbãnime/i-, see Anelli 2019a:62.

1.1.5Stem
The verb trbbẽni-(ti) is a formation in -i-(ti) derived from an unattested n-stem, or it can represent the reanalyzed suffix -ẽni-(ti) equating to CLuw. -ani-(ti) (see Sasseville 2021a:148f., 160f., contra Houwink ten Cate 1961a:141).
