1.1.3Meaning

As pointed out in Gusmani 1964a:123, fedtros is probably related to the verb tro-(d), which even occurs one line earlier, i.e. fatroš ‘you (will) hand over’. The phrase edš fedtros means ‘this/that fedtros’ and probably refers to what is handed over or perhaps to the person who is handing something over. The decision between the two depends on whether the stem is tros- (i.e. nom. sg. tross > tros, cf. šarištros(i)-) or tro- (see trol(i)-). However, the element ed in f-ed-tro- remains quite obscure. More evidence is needed to verify any of these hypotheses.
