1.1.4Meaning

On account of its shape, the lexeme can be interpreted as an -i(ya)- derivative of ḫarpanalla/i- with relational meaning, whence the translation ‘rebellious, of rebels’ (see CLL:59, where the distinction between the noun and the derived adjective is first introduced). The adjectival force is confirmed by the context, in which ḫarpanalli(ya)- is listed together with several other adjectives (‘internal and external’, ‘dead and alive’; see Mouton & Yakubovich 2019a:213 on these merisms).

[E.R.]

1.1.5Stem

The form in -iyan identifies the lexeme as a stem in -i(ya)- (following CLL:59, contra Starke 1990a:232).

[E.R.]

1.1.6Origin

Base and suffix clearly point to a Luwianism (see under ḫarpanalla/i- for references).
