1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

The phonological interpretation of this verb is not clear. The sign *286 has been fixed with the syllabic value 〈wa/i7〉, but it cannot be said with certainty if it should be understood as a syllabogram or a logogram in the present lexeme. No semantic interpretation of the sign shape has so far been put forward, it distantly resembles a cross with one tip bent downwards and the other remaining straight. The sign is used in a handful of other words, whose interpretations mostly face similar difficulties.

The ending of the verb is evidently lenited, which is clear from the use of 〈tà〉 for /da/, cf. Rieken 2008b:538f.

1.1.4Meaning

Even though the verb is attested only twice in largely identical inscriptions, a meaning has been suggested for it by Dinçol, Dinçol, Hawkins, Peker & Öztan 2015a:66 on the basis of the twice-attested context. ARSUZ 2, §4 reads: (DEUS)BONUS-pa-mu (DEUS)VITIS “*286”+ra/i-li-tà, approx. /Kumarmas=ba=mu TiPariyas …-rlida/, which they translate as ‘The grain-god and the wine-god favoured (?) me’ (see Dinçol, Dinçol, Hawkins, Peker & Öztan 2015a:64f.). Further textual evidence may result in a reappraisal of the semantic interpretation.

1.1.5Stem

The verb likely belongs to the class in /-(a)i-(di)/, since a stem in /-i(ya)-(di)/ is not likely for what appears to be a denominative; see Sasseville 2021a:218f., 319-312.
