1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

The phonological interpretation of this verb seems clear. The use of the logogram (sign *93) places the verb into the semantic domain around motion and movement, and a family link with /pazza-/ ‘to pass, move along’ is possible, cf. the discussion of the stem below.

1.1.4Meaning

The word is attested but once and for a long time remained semantically opaque, see still Hawkins 2000a:254. However, its meaning becomes reasonably clear once linked to transitive /pazza-(i)/ ‘to pass, move along’ (pace Yakubovich 2016a:80). The context at MARAŞ 8, §8 reads: zi-pa-wa/i FLUMEN-pi ARHA PES2-za-na-ha, approx. /zin=ba=wa habi ahha pazzannahha/, meaning ‘(I filled granary upon granary), and I kept moving (them) away from here to the river’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:253 and Goedegebuure 2007a:327).

1.1.5Stem

The present verb shows a stem in /-anna-(i)/, deriving from the also attested verb /pazza-(i)/ ‘to pass, move along’, cf. Sasseville 2021a:513f. Its meaning may be imperfective or iterative, but this is difficult to assess based on the available attestation.
