1.1.2Forms

1sg. pret. act. (?) a-pa-ar-ḫa KUB 35.68, 13’ (CTH 763, NS)
  [a-pa]-a-ar-ḫa KUB 35.65 iii 11 (CTH 763, MS)

The morphological analysis is less than assured. Melchert (in CLL:21) tentatively decides to list the form as a 1sg. pret. act. verb and the following form zāštātta as pronominal neuter nom./acc. pl. of zašta/i- with the particle =tta (ibid. 281), while Mouton, Puértolas Rubio & Yakubovich (pers. comm.) prefer to view apār- as a noun (nom./acc. sg. n.) with the conjunction =ḫa ‘and’ and zāštātta as the verb (2sg. pret. act.). From a formal point of view, either solution is possible.

1.1.4Meaning

No meaning has been assigned to the word so far (DLL:29, CLL:21, HHw:18). The context, in which it occurs, cites a direct speech presenting the opponent of the ritual patron, either a man or a woman, to the Sun-god. The following line 13’ [... DTi]-wa-za a-pa-ar-ḫa za-a-aš-ta-a-at-ta na-[... ] probably contains the address of the Sun-god and, if the verbal interpretation of aparḫa is correct, one can speculate that it refers to the fact that the person was brought before the Sun-god. Accordingly, a transfer verb would be appropriate in the given context, but due caution prevents us from offering a translation here.
