dat. sg. (?) waredtaλ LW 11.5 (Sardis)

Thus also Gusmani 1964a:221. Formally, waredtaλ could be a 3sg. medio-passive verbal form, however, since uwed in the same clause is already interpreted as a finite verb, a nominal interpretation seems more adequate. Nonetheless, caution is advisable.

1.1.3Meaning

No meaning has been suggested so far for this word. From an etymological perspective, it is tempting to connect the root war- with that of CLuw. warraḫit- n. ‘help’. Even the suffix -e- or -ed- could be compatible with the one of CLuw. -aḫi-t- (see Sasseville 2021a:206-214). For the rest, a nominal suffix -ta- would have to be posited. A meaning like ‘assistance’ is possible in the context, but it cannot currently be verified; on the context, see also uwe-(d).
