1.1.2Forms
| nom. sg. c. | [wa]-ar-˹ra-ḫi-ta-aš-ši˺-iš | KBo 45.11 i 6 | (CTH 597, NS) |
| gen. sg. (Hitt.) | wa-ra-ḫi-da-aš | VSNF 12.33 iv 6 | (CTH 670, NS) |
| wa-ar-ra-ḫi-ta-aš | KUB 20.60, 7’ | (CTH 656, NS) |
Lebrun 1976a:184, Kronasser 1966a:231, Kümmel 1979a:337, CLL:257, and EDHIL:962 restore at KUB 20.60, 7’ a Hittite nom. sg. in -aš for the Luwian genitival adjective warraḫitašša/i- (wa-ar-ra-ḫi-ta-aš-š[a-aš] vel. sim.). However, this causes unnecessary graphic and morphological problems. For one, it would mean that two signs (-š[a-aš) were dislocated to the right after a large space, not only in a non-final line of the paragraph, but also instead of only one sign or the entire word. For another, a Hittite nom. sg. c. ending -aš of one of the frequent Luwian genitival adjectives would be unparalleled. Following Otten’s suggestion on a file card of the Hethitologie-Archiv Mainz and in HEG U-Z:312, the beginning of the next sign can be restored as e- for ˹e˺-[ku-zi] (instead of -š[a-). – The nom. sg. of the name of the Storm-god at KBo 45.11 i 6 is unexpected in terms of syntax, because the Storm-god is the recipient of bread-breaking (dat./loc.) or drinking (acc.). Therefore, form must be interpreted as a pendent nominative (similarly in KUB 20.60, 7’), see HEG U-Z:312.

1.1.3Graphic Features
Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – As indicated by Götze 1953a:277 n. 101, the DU warraḫitašša/i- is the equivalent of the DU EN RE-EṢ-ṢÚ-TI or DU EN Á.TAḪ respectively.
[E.R.]
1.1.4Meaning
The forms of warraḫi(t)- are used as epithets only to divine names. However, the list of the Storm-gods at KUB 20.60, 5’-7’ immediately preceding the DU warraḫitaš (Storm-god of Heaven, Storm-god of Strength, Storm-god of Making-right, Storm-god of …, Storm-god of Divine Guidance, DU warraḫitaš) seems to imply that their function is supporting mankind. It is therefore reasonable to assume that warraḫi(t)- is derived from the same base as Luw. warrišša-(i) ‘to help’ and Hitt. warra- ‘help’, and has a similar abstract meaning ‘help’. That interpretation has entered the handbooks (see Laroche 1948a:126, DLL:107, HW2:245, Starke 1990a:155-157, CLL:257, Melchert 2014e:259, HEG U-Z:312f., Ünal 2007a:786, EDHIL:962).
[E.R.]
1.1.5Stem
Obviously, the stem of warraḫi(t)- is derived by means of the Luwian abstract suffix -aḫi(t)- from a stem warra- (cf. Hitt. warra- c. ‘help’) or warr-. In fact, Starke 1990a:155f. and Melchert 2014e:259 regard warra- < *warraH- as one of the starting points for the class of -aḫi(t)- abstract nouns.
[E.R.]
1.1.6Derivatives
The theonym DU warraḫitaššala- cited by García Ramón 2016a:73 is a ghost word.
[E.R.]
1.1.7Origin
Doubtlessly, use of the suffix -aḫi(t)- and the formation of the genitival adjective in -ašša/i- point to a Luwian origin, which has been stated or at least implied since Laroche 1948a:126 (for further references, see under Meaning).
