1.1.2Forms
| inf. | laptãnal | LW 11.8 (Sardis) |
Formally speaking, the form laptãnal could be the 3rd singular preterit of a verbal a-stem instead, but this is refuted by the derivational interpretation as a verbal stem in -ãni-(t), where the 3rd sg. preterit would be -ãnil; cf. under Stem.
[D.S.]
1.1.3Meaning
No meaning is offered by Gusmani 1964a:157. The verb laptãnal occurs without a direct object, but takes people as human referents, i.e. atrokl (PN) and sfarda(ν) ‘Sardians’. It is here grammatically analyzed as an infinitive depending on the finite verb qaλmλa-(d) ‘to command(?)’; cf. under Stem. If the grammatical analysis is correct, then laptãnal represents an action to be performed by the command of Šrkaštu- (PN).
[D.S.]
1.1.4Stem
The verb laptãnal is likely to be a derivative of the noun lapta- ‘?’ (Meriggi 1935a:94). The verb is here analyzed as a denominative derived with the verbal suffix -ãni-(t).
[D.S.]
For the base of the derivative see lapta-.
