1.1.4Meaning

Schürr 2005a:135 suggests a derivative of atra- ‘person, self’, which is more persuasive than his other solution of taking atrala as a place name (ibid.). In TL 44d.44, the adjective a[t]rala is governed by muwa- (pl. tantum) ‘strength (?)’. This phrase can be plausibly translated as ‘(my) own strength’. In TL 55.6, Shevoroshkin 2002c:406 suggests that atrala is the subject of the sentence and refers to a group of people, which cannot be supported. Here, atrala is more likely to agree with prijãma (nom./acc. pl. n.), standing in apposition to tuwi ‘votive offering’ and be the sacrificed object. Otherwise, atrala could be used adverbially.

[D.S.]
