1.1.2Forms
| 3sg. pres. ind. act. or nom./acc. sg. n. | umνod | LW 11.6 (Sardis) |
For the hesitation between the two grammatical forms, which depends on the status of Lyd. cfisad see under lemma. Gérard 2005a:110 and Sasseville 2021a:480 take it as a verbal form, tentatively suggesting a causative in -νo-(d).
[D.S.]
1.1.3Meaning
The context, in which the word umνod is found, is obscure. Gusmani 1964a:219 suggests a connection with fa-kat-wãmi-(d) ‘to encounter’, which cannot be supported. If the u vowel represents an epenthetic vocalism of the nasal (Sasseville 2021a:480, cf. Lyd. kof(i)- and its dat. sg. form kofuλ), an etymological connection with CLuw. mannu- ‘the fertile, potent, manly condition (vel sim.)’ would be very tempting. In any case, further evidence is needed.
[D.S.]
1.1.4Stem
The word umνod either represents a nominal stem in -o- or a denominative verb in -o-(d) (or a verb in -νo-(d)).
