šat(i)-
‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is found in a metrical inscription that has not yet been dated accurately.
[D.S.]
1.1.2Forms
| acc. pl. | šatis | LW 44a.2 (Magnesia am Sipylos) |
1.1.3Graphic Features
The reading follows Buckler 1924a:62, but the upper part of the inscription is partly erased, which makes it impossible to verify the readings with any certainty. Likewise, the space rendered after šatis and before um is unexpected, since =um should be the enclitic 1st sg. pronoun ‘(to) me’.
[D.S.]
1.1.4Meaning
No interpretation had been suggested for šatis so far (Gusmani 1964a:191). Since it is coordinated with ca=k ‘and the shares/allotments (?)’ (see Lyd. ca-), šatis is expected to refer to something similar. Pending further evidence, no meaning is assigned here.
[D.S.]
1.1.5Stem
The noun šatis is interpreted as acc. pl. to a mutated stem šat(i)- c.; for the paradigm, see Sasseville 2017a:132. It is probable that we are dealing with an abstract formation in -t(i)- c. built to a root ša-. Nonetheless, no etymology is offered here.
